Becoming A Canadian Citizen

Applying to become a Canadian citizen is truly a proud moment for any immigrant. Permanent residents who have met the residency requirement may apply to become a Canadian citizen and as a Canadian citizen enjoy the same rights and responsibilities as all other Canadians including voting in elections and running for office. In certain limited situations you may be able to count the time spent outside Canada towards meeting the residency requirement for citizenship. We are here to assist you along the way and take pride in being part of your journey in becoming a Canadian citizen.

The main requirements for most adult applicants are:

Physical Presence – You must have been physically present in Canada for at least 1,095 days (three years) within the five years before you apply.

Tax Filing – You must have filed income tax returns, if required, for at least three of the five years before applying.

Language and Knowledge – Applicants aged 18 to 54 must show adequate knowledge of English or French and pass a test on Canada's history, values, and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
